I found myself a new treat to make!
I've always been a huge fan of chocolate orange peels ever since I first had them at Godiva.
The other day I finally stumbled across a recipe!
Welp, I went out and bought a ton of oranges some chocolate and raw sugar and went to work!
The actual creation of the peels take a few hours and a night to dry. So make sure you have at least 2 days to make them!!
Here are the short-hand steps:
1 - cut oranges into strips (you can peel out the inside cleanly)
2 - take inside of oranges and juice them into a separate bowl. set aside.
3 - bring a pot of water to boil. blanch peels for 2 minutes.
4 - strain and repeat step 3 another two times. (that's 3 blanch cycles! fresh water each time)
5 - take the orange juice 3 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water and bring those to a boil.
6 - toss in peels and boil for around an hour.
7 - lay out peels to dry on a rack or cookie sheet. ( i used a sheet covered in parchment paper)
*at this point you can sprinkle them with a large grain sugar for extra sweetness and crunch
!!!DRY THEM FOREVER!!!
No not really. But at least over night.
8 - melt some dark chocolate and dip the peels half way
9 - layout on a sheet covered in whatever paper you want (wax or parchment)
10 - place in fridge to help chocolate harden
ENJOY!!
These were a huge hit at a family get together!
